The Pridelands Pride_Lands_by_Nahxhan

This is the territory of the Sabre Pride, stocked with plenty of buffalo and wild horse, for the pride to eat, and plenty of rock formations for the sabre's to call home.

The grey coated feline yawned, his jaw opening wide enough for his huge canines to no longer be past his jaw-line. Finishing he gave his head a little shake, as he walked on. It was still early but he and his son were travelling and travellers needed to keep moving. To ask where exactly it was they were going would not receive any kind of answer you might be hoping for. For the saber cat did not really know. Since his mate and their other cubs died he had had no greater purpose than to keep his remaining son from starving or being killed.

Murali, as the feline was known as, was a practical thinking beast. He had no time for such things as feelings, or emotions, just keeping alive. He cared not for other creatures or what they would have wanted, his only interest himself and his son. Yet even then it was difficult.

The sun was still not fully up, its rays gently kissing the land of the early morning. Creatures of all kinds were still mostly asleep and likely not to be on guard. This is the second reason Murali had himself and his son up this early, food. As they went alone, he was hoping to catch something off guard for an easy meal. Glancing back he looked for his son.

Padding along behind his father, the albino yearling cub stopped to look at things such as flowers and inhale their sweet scent. It was early and there was a chill to the air. Frostbite ruffled his fur and made a 'brrr' sound as he did. He wondered where they would venture too this day.

Frost was tired of travelling, why couldnt they just stay in one spot? He didnt see the point in moving all the time. His legs and paws always hurt and he wasn't allowed to meet anyone. He gave a small sigh as he trotted to catch up with his father.

"Daaaadd!" he nagged "Dad what are we doing?"

An annoyed look crossed Murali's face. "What have I told you about whining?" he growled, keeping his voice somewhat hushed. He didn't want to startle any creatures nearby and let them know they were there. Why did his son not realise it was always in their best interest to always keep quiet. It stopped the dire wolves, along with anything else that did not like them from knowing where they were, also stopped them from alerting anything that might be good for eating.

Glancing back at Frostbite, Murali said sharply, "Now stay quiet and keep your senses alert for something to eat. Never let an opportunity to let something you can catch to go by." He gave a grunt and turned back to walking along and keeping alert. "And no complaining."

Frost looked at his father as he seemed annoyed. His rounded ears flicked and he cowered slightly. Why did he have be so mean all the time. Mother was always nice. Frostbites ears flattened as he continued along, looking for something that was to play with. He didnt like to think of the other animals as food. He would rather play with them.

He sat and gave a huff. And just as he sat an arctic shrew came into view. He grinned and chased after it mewing. "Mr Shrew come back I wont eat you!!" he mewed more as he bounded after it playfully.

Murali continued on, searching for something to eat. He had given Frostbite the last bit of food and now the male was himself hungry. How could his cub not understand that survival was the most important thing? The grey saber sometimes wondered if he and his cub were even related.

Hearing his son's voice, Murali whirled around. "Stupid boy," he grunted under his breath, chasing after Frostbite. Using all the speed that he had, the male was able to catch up with the shrew chasing cub, overtaking him. His eye was now on the shrew for a meal. Leaping forward he caught the small creature under his paws, his jaws closing around it for a swift kill.

Sitting up he faced Frostbite, scolding his son, "What have I told you about letting a meal opportunity pass? Other creatures are food not play buddies! What were you thinking? or were you even thinking? We have no pride to help with the hunting Frostbite, it is just you and me. Where are you going to learn that?"
